HISTORY
Batavia is the name given by the Dutch in the colony trade now grown to become Jakarta, capital of Indonesia. Batavia was established at the port named Jayakarta captured from the Sultanate of Banten. Before controlled Banten, the city is known as the Sunda Kalapa, and was one point trading Kingdom of Sunda. From this port city VOC controls trade and military and political power in the archipelago.

Batavia name used since about 1621 to 1942, when the Dutch East Indies fell to the Japanese. As part of the de-Nederlandisasi, the city's name was changed to Jakarta. Malay-language forms, namely "Betawi", still in use today.


National Monument or popularly abbreviated Monas monument or memorial is as high as 132 meters (433 feet), which was established in memory of the resistance and the Indonesian people's struggle for independence from Dutch colonial rule. The construction of this monument began on August 17th, 1961 under the orders of president Sukarno, and opened to the public on July 12, 1975. This monument crowned flame coated gold leaf symbolizing the fighting spirit blazing. The National Monument is located right in the center of Merdeka Square, Central Jakarta.

 
Rumah kebaya is a traditional house name Betawi ethnic group. Called rumah kebaya because the shape resembles a saddle roof is folded and when viewed from the side, the folds that look like folds kebaya.

Betawi population is an ethnic group in Indonesia where the population generally resides in Jakarta.Some parties argue that ethnic Betawi derived from the results of inter-ethnic marriages and the nation in the past. Biologically, they were claimed as a native Betawi are descendants of mixed blood people of various ethnicities and nationalities were brought by the Netherlands to Batavia. The so-called ethnic Betawi people or actually counted newcomers in Jakarta. This ethnic group was born from the fusion of various other ethnic groups who were already living in Jakarta, such as the Sundanese, Malay, Javanese, Arabic, Balinese, Bugis, Makasar, Ambon, and Chinese and European.However, according to some researchers who disagree with Lance Castles ever studied the population of Jakarta where journal research published in 1967 by Cornell University said that biologically, they are claiming to be the Betawi people are descendants of the bloody mixture of various ethnicities and nationalities were brought by the Netherlands to Batavia , This ethnic group born from the fusion of various other ethnic groups who were already living in Jakarta, such as the Sundanese, Malay, Javanese, Balinese, Bugis, Makassar and Ambon, as well as the tribes of newcomers, such as Arabic, Indian, Chinese, and European
